The "OG" Internet
My discovery of Nostr and having fun with what feels like the "OG" internet.
Nostr?
Nostr? What exactly is Nostr? So, I stumbled upon Nostr a few months ago. I heard about it and was aware of it based on Jack Dorsey's tweet, which I think was in 2022, but I never delved into it. As I've delved deeper into my development bag, and just like the privacy focus, I said, "You know, let me actually tap into Nostr and see what it's like over there." So, I downloaded Primal on my phone and on my computer and just started playing around with it. To sum up what Nostr is, it's basically an open protocol, open source, obviously, but it feels like the internet of the old. What I mean by that is like the internet that everyone was curious about when they first learned about it. Let's say the early 2000s, late 90s, early 2000s, around that time period, where you had a lot of development in different spaces. You had a lot of other web-based applications. You had different search engines. You just had everything, but everyone was curious. That's what Nostr feels like. It feels like curiosity, but also free, if you will. And you can say and do just about whatever you want without the burden of potentially getting your account banned, getting your account dethroned, or losing access to everything on your account.
Privacy?
We're in an era where privacy is a rarity, if you will. With a lot of KYC going on, we often give up our privacy. And to a degree, most of us are okay with that. There's nothing wrong with that. However, I believe the true superpower lies in knowing what you're giving up in terms of privacy and setting certain limitations and boundaries on that privacy. The reason I bring this up as it pertains to Nostr and an open protocol is that it's built in the open. It's quite literally open source. You can check the code. You can look at the people who are contributing to the platform. I just think that's amazing. And again, it reminds me of the internet of old, or the original internet. To have openness for users to be able to customize and do what they want, which is fun.
The Fun Part!
I think the fun part begins now. I think now, more than ever, we can do what we want to do. I enjoy all the AI tools, including OpenAI's models, Anthropic's models, and open-source models. I enjoy it all. I'm just a stickler for all things technology. So, in closing, have fun, create, stay curious, and build!
Hope you all enjoy! Follow me here.
